The Purpose of this Forum

This forum is somewhat different from other support forums. The main reason I created it was so that people could come together and pool our knowledge about coping with DID/MPD or other dissociative disorders. So this is a place for giving concrete descriptions of things that have worked for you.

The purpose is mainly informative: things that have worked for some people, at least some of the time. The board is still quite new, and things will change as more people begin to contribute. If you have a dissociative disorder, or are a support person for someone who does, you might want to offer your own suggestions, or read the suggestions that other people have offered.

Feel free to offer your suggestions and feedback.

General guidelines

The first rule is to be respectful of the other people on this board. No flaming, rudeness, or things like that. You don't have to be sugary sweet, but please be respectful.

The second rule is to remember that, although we are offering advice and suggestions, not all suggestions will work for all people. Offer your advice with the knowledge that people are free to take it or leave it.

The third rule is to take care of yourself. It isn't our job to rescue people or solve their problems for them. The point of this board is to offer tools to people so they can solve their problems for themselves.

The fourth rule is to be aware of your safety. This forum is open to anyone who wants to read it. At this point, all of the sections are readable by people who are not members. Even if membership were more moderated, there would be no way to know for sure that people are who they say they are. So do not post information here that will let people find you offline. That means no phone numbers or addresses, and avoid using your real name or email address.

Posting guidelines

1. Please search the board to see if the topic you are posting about has already been covered. Since this site is intended to create a workbook, it would be best if we're not repeating topics unnecessarily. Instead, let's try to keep everything as organized as we can.

2. Please remember that there is no one right way. Something might work for one person and not for another.

3. As much as possible, try to pay attention to the basic rules of grammar and spelling. Depending on your web browser, it may be possible to spell-check your post before you post it. If you have this option, and you know you are not good at spelling, please do spell check. We won't jump on people for bad spelling or grammar, but since one of the long-term goals of this project is to create a book or website, it would be nice to save some effort in copy-editing.
Who says there is anything wrong with being crazy, anyhow?
